Cadash by Taito brought a very welcome action-rpg sword and sorcery kind of atmosphere to the arcades in 1989, and thankfully we Turbografx/PC Engine fans got a home version 2 years later. The game caught my eye because…. Yes… You guessed it…. Because it is a co-op game and well, just look at that brilliant cover art. How could I not check it out?

After i played Ys Book 1 & 2 and was extremely impressed i could not wait to take on the sequel Ys III: Wanderers From Ys. Prior to actually playing the game i read that they take away the top-down Zelda 1-ish perspective in favor for the side scrolling action perspective like in Zelda 2: Adventure of Link. I had also heard that like Adventure of Link, Ys III was supposed to be the “black sheep” of the series. Well…. As a person who actually liked Adventure of Link i dove into Ys III with no prejudgment feelings about the new theme of the game and finished it to find out if it really is a “black sheep”.

Ginga Fukei Densetsu Sapphire or just “Sapphire” for short caught my attention a while back since i saw it was a co-op game. Further investigation led me to finding out that if you want a genuine copy of the game it might cost you about 1000$! That is insanity right?! What game could be worth this amount of money? Well….i burned a copy of the game on CD-R to play on my PC Engine Duo-R to find out if this price tag is even half justified.
Check out the full review to see if it is 😉

A full remake for Wonder Boy III: The Dragon’s Trap (Sega Master System) or Dragon’s Curse (Turbografx16) was just announced on E3 last week so thought it was appropriate to give the original a shot since it is a very well received and heralded game. I played the Turbografx16 version till’ the end and big parts of the Master System version but to be honest i wasn’t very impressed.

So i went to Japan and finally got my PC Engine Duo-R system i so longed for, so what can be more appropriate than to check out and review one of the systems lunch titles? Well, Legendary Axe actually a launch title for the American version (Turbografx16) and i have to say it looked really good at first sight and it seemed to have a Castlevania-ish gameplay. Plus, the Happy Console Gamer(Johnny Millennium) recommended it so i decided to give it a go.

Until recently I knew next to nothing about the Tubografx 16 console (PC Engine in Japan) but when I started looking into the Castlevania series and Rondo of Blood I was intrigued. Having 16-bit games on a CD adds so much to the games’ depth. That is the case with this gem “Lords of Thunder” which was released in 1993 which only makes it more special. This is a Shoot em’ up game ( a “shmup” game like Gradius, Xevious, Galaga & Thunder Force) and there were a lot of them on the Turbografx but I saw this one was special right away so I decided to try it out.
