Master of Darkness (1992 Sega Master System)

The Sega Master System lived way beyond what was considered normal. Even in 1993, 4 years after the Sega Mega Drive debuted in Japan the Sega Master System was still getting solid releases. There are two main reasons for this. First is that the Sega Master System still had a big fanbase that never upgraded to the Mega Drive in Europe(France especially) and Brazil for god knows what reason. Second reason is that the Sega Game Gear was at its peak at the time and the Game Gear is basically a portable Master System so it was easy and cheap to make many games for both systems. Master of Darkness was one of those games, a 1890’s horror story that takes place in London and borrows heavily from the Castlevania franchise which i am a big fan of so i had to try it out.

Alex Kidd in Miracle World (1986 Sega Master System)

The Sega Master System makes it’s debut to Cousin Gaming! By coincidence i got my hands on a Sega Master System for the first time but i have to admit that before now i had never ever played a Sega Master System game (except some on the Game Gear). I looked up what games are the best ones on the system, got myself an everdrive and started with a game starring what is considered the former mascot of Sega. It is one the most talked about game that was exclusive to the system, Alex Kidd in Miracle World. Let’s see how it goes!

Golden Axe (1989 Sega MD/Genenis)

Golden Axe for the Mega Drive/Genesis was a godsend when it finally was ported from the arcades to the comfort of your own home. Or so i´ve heard since being from freaking Iceland we never had any arcades and got all games like a year later than everyone else…. Anyway i never played Golden Axe until me and of course my cousin decided to pick it up last month since it is a co-op beat’em up. We had always stayed away from the game because of its dated graphics but we are in the process of making a Sega MD top 10 co-op games list so of course we had to play it since its status in the retro gaming is somewhat legendary. Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master (1993 Sega MD/Genesis)

So much more than just Sonic, the Sega Mega Drive did not miss out on the Ninja craze of the late eighties and the early nineties. Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master is the sequel the more known Revenge of the Shinobi, who was the sequel to Shinobi on the Sega Master System(and some other systems). I just played Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master for the first time last week and felt that it was technically much superior than its predecessors and the best game in the series. Check this review out to see how good it is.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Reviews: Turtles in Time vs. The Hyperstone Heist

We have been huge Turtles fans since we can remember. Whether it be the motion pictures or the original cartoon, didn’t matter, as long as it was the Turtles and we were shell shocked! We have already reviewed the game that we played the most together as kids; Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles II: The Arcade Game and obviously love it for its great beat’em up action and 2 player co-op feature. The natural thing to do was to step it up when the 16-bit systems were released and we got two more TMNT beat’em up co-op games; Turtles in Time for the SNES and The Hyperstone Heist for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis. Here we will discuss, compare and review these two games. Let´s kick shell!

Terranigma (1995 SNES)

Being a huge Final Fantasy and JRPG fan I was always trying to find similar games on whatever system possible. A friend of mine insisted a while back that Terranigma is the best RPG on the SNES, even better than Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI (III). Well… I couldn’t believe that, at least not before I tried the game. So I tried it! And played it! In both English and Japanese, and now I am finally reviewing it 🙂
