Windjammers (Neo Geo CD 1995)

This review marks a breakthrough for the website as in this is our first Neo Geo game review. This means that eventually we will have a “Top 10 Neo Geo games” list and a lot more co-op recommendations because the Neo Geo is essentially an arcade system and the AES and CD home consoles are all arcade games on home consoles.
So yeah i got myself a Neo Geo CD. It has long loading times, not all Neo Geo games were released on the system and most games suffer from the infinite credit syndrome. Still, no one can afford the AES games and for all the games that were not released on the Neo Geo CD and/or if i feel want to have a set number of credits in some games i get the game for the Wii Virtual Console.
Windjammers (Flying Power Disc) was released in 1995 and it is a head to head pong game in a fancy suit. Great fun and a great way to break into the Neo Geo library also because the game is set for release on the PS4 with online functionality.

Valis III + series overview (Turbografx16/PC Engine CD 1990)

Ever since i started my PC Engine adventure in May last year the Valis series had intrigued me. Being a huge Castlevania/Mega Man fan it was very interesting to see a female, anime styled protagonist jumping around and slashing foes in a skimpy suit of armor.
The games are 4 in total and some released on other system, but I would always recommend the Turbografx/PC Engine version of these games. Right off the bat the order in which I like the games goes like this: 3>4>1>2.
That being said, I might end up not reviewing the others in the same amount detail as Valis III but this review should give you an impression on what you are expecting if you get into the Valis series.
Valis II and III got released in the US but the other two were unfortunately Japan only.

Top 10 Sega Mega Drive/Genesis Games

I have been putting this off for a long time since i was never really happy about what my top 10 list looked like. I just had a hard time finding games deserving to be on a prestigious list like this. But in the end i just have to go with my gut feeling and dish it out. Although i love the Sega Mega Drive for what it is i just feel the list lacks a bit in quality when compared to the NES and SNES list and maybe even the Turbografx16/PCEngine list but that does not mean that the Sega Mega does not have a few gems on there! Even if it means the quantity is less.
I try to represent all the most popular genres of the time and as always there is the only one game per franchise unless i feel the games just absolutely deserve that.

Toejam & Earl (1991 Sega Mega/Genesis)

We have been playing the shit out out Toejam & Earl, a brilliant co-op adventure for the Sega Mega/Genesis. The perfect game for you and your pal to kick back, have a couple of brewskies before you got out or just whenever you have an hour or so to kill. At first the game comes off a little weird and maybe a little slow even but believe me when i say that the fun sets in very quickly.

Strider (Sega Mega/Genesis 1990)

I am almost ready to do a “Top 10 Sega Mega/Genesis Games” list. I have picked out the first 9 choices but i am having trouble finding a game worthy of the 10th spot. In my search i have played multiple games who all somehow fail to meet my standards of being on a list like this. People told me that this 10th or above game should be Strider, an arcade original action platforming game by Capcom that i had never played before. Strider was ported to many system like The Master System and PC Engine but the Sega Mega/Genesis version is supposed to be the best of the bunch but while i think Strider had its fun moments there are just so many things about the gameplay and presentation that is off-putting making it fall way short of making my Mega Drive top 10 list.

Comix Zone (Sega Mega/Genesis 1995)

The Sega Mega Drive/Genesis was a home for a bunch of American made games, much more so than the Super Nintendo. The Sega Genesis was a big hit in America and Sega of America made it much less anal to make 3rd party games compared to the sometimes hostile business practices of Nintendo. Games like Toejam & Earl and Comix Zone are great examples of that.
Comix Zone is a 1-player beat ’em up game that throws Sketch Turner, a comic artist into his own comic book were he has to fight his way out and stop Mortus, the villain that Sketch himself created from wreaking havoc on the real world…. Pretty far out but it is a very fun concept having to beat your way through the windows and pages of the comic themed stages.
