Wonder Boy III: The Dragon’s Trap/Dragon’s Curse (1989/1991 SMS/Turbografx16 )

A full remake for Wonder Boy III: The Dragon’s Trap (Sega Master System) or Dragon’s Curse (Turbografx16) was just announced on E3 last week so thought it was appropriate to give the original a shot since it is a very well received and heralded game. I played the Turbografx16 version till’ the end and big parts of the Master System version but to be honest i wasn’t very impressed.

The Legendary Axe (1988 Turbografx16/PCEngine)

So i went to Japan and finally got my PC Engine Duo-R system i so longed for, so what can be more appropriate than to check out and review one of the systems lunch titles? Well, Legendary Axe actually a launch title for the American version (Turbografx16) and i have to say it looked really good at first sight and it seemed to have a Castlevania-ish gameplay. Land of Illusion is the second game in the Illusion series after Castle of Illusion. Castle of Illusion as you may know was also released on the Genesis  as well as the Master System and while the two version are quite different i felt that Land of Illusion was more special to the Master System so it felt right to review that one even though Land of Illusion was also released on the Sega Game Gear later and was nearly identical to the Master System version as it was with many of the later Master System titles (like i explained in the Master of Darkness review). Phantasy Star (1987 Sega Master System)

Cousin gaming continues grinding through the Sega Master System library! This time i played Sega’s answer to Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest. Phantasy Star was a must get game at the time, a game that probably moved more Sega Master System consoles than any other game on the system.  8-bit rpg’s tend to not age very well though, but let’s take a look at how Phantasy Star holds up 28 years later.
